Vintage Vinos March Spring Gathering
The meeting was hosted by Chriss and Brian, on March 12, with 8 VV members and special guests Bryan and Vicki Beazley of Les Wineaux.
The focus of the tasting was to investigate the importance and effect of Tannins on wine. The wines presented were large full-bodied reds from:
Madiran-Brumont Chateau Montus 2017, (80% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon), South West France
Mission Hill Reserve Merlot 2021 Osoyoos/Oliver, BC
DOAU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 Paso Robles, California
A glass of Riesling from Sailors Rest, Don Graham’s cellar, was first served to prepare our palates for the Tannin onslaught.
Don Graham gave a comprehensive summary on the importance of Tannins in wine and how they contribute to the wine structure, flavour and aging potential. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were blind tastings.
Following the initial tasting the wines were then paired with dishes prepared by the attendees. Desert was provided by the hosts.
A most enjoyable evening, with great wine and lively conversation.
