A Convivial Evening with the Wee Drammers

The Wee Drammers met on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026 for a smaller, more intimate gathering—just six of us around the table, which gave the evening a warm, easy rhythm. With fewer voices around the table, conversation flowed easily, drifting from travel stories to favourite distilleries, and occasionally circling back to the two single malts at the centre of the night’s exploration.

 We opened the night with the Tomintoul Peated Single Malt, a gentle introduction to smoke—more Highland breeze than Islay storm. Its soft peat, that seems to linger just long enough to make it’s point, and light sweetness made it an inviting first dram, easing everyone into the tasting.

From there we moved to the Glen Deveron 16, a refined, fruit-forward whisky with honeyed malt and a smooth, rounded finish. The contrast between the two—one quietly smoky, the other elegantly mellow—sparked plenty of discussion and a few second pours.

As always, the food table played its part. A selection of cheeses paired beautifully with both whiskies, while smoked salmon on croissants added a touch of indulgence. Various meats on pumpernickel brought a hearty counterpoint to the Tomintoul’s peat. And of course, no Wee Drammers evening would be complete without the obligatory dark chocolate, which—true to form—enhanced both whiskies in its own quiet way.

It was a modest gathering, but a memorable one: good whisky, good food, and the easy camaraderie that defines the Wee Drammers. Gatherings like this remind us why we keep coming back: to share a few drams, a few stories, and the pleasure of good company.
