Vintage Vinos – Argentinian Malbec Tasting

The Vintage Vinos met on April 8th at Pat and Gary’s place to sample and learn about
Argentinian Malbec. Twelve members sampled three different wines from the Mendoza
region. Catena Malbec 2023, Jardin de Hormigas Malbec 2022 and Circus Malbec
2024 were first tasted on their own and then tasted with some of the lovely appetizers
brought along by members designed to complement the wines.
The Catena winery dates from 1902 and has a long history on the Argentinian wine
scene. Originally started by an Italian, the winery today plays an important role in
Mendoza and beyond. Jardin de Hormigas had to combat pesky ants that continually
tried to eat the young grape vines. Hormiga means ant in Spanish. Today the winery is
100% certified organic and thriving in harmony with the ants. Circus Malbec had the
most interesting label of the three wines and the more you look the more you see in the
artwork. Each wine had something unique to offer.
We had the honour of celebrating Bill’s Birthday so balloons and decorations in
Argentinian colours were in order. So was some Birthday pie to finish off the evening.
Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and we look forward to our next gathering.
