PRISMA Sail to the Symphony

On Saturday, June 20 an enthusiastic group of Nanoose Bay Probians sailed to Powell River for the annual PRISMA concert. The weather was perfect and the company was delightful. After a tasty buffet lunch we were entertained in the Evergreen Theatre. The first offering was Brahms’ Double Concerto (violin and cello). The scheduled violinist had taken ill and another violinist, Robert Uchida, concertmaster with the Edmonton Symphony, stepped up with 24 hours’ notice to perform, along with cellist Desmond Hoebig.

The second half of the concert was Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique, which Leonard Bernstein famously labeled “Berlioz Takes a Trip”. It was a magnificent and difficult piece, played exquisitely by the student orchestra.

The sail back to Comox was relaxing and provided another chance to visit, a favourite Probus activity. Enjoy the slideshow!
