WEE DRAMMERS – Special Tastings

The tasting on March 31, 2026 was hosted by Brian S. The two offerings numbering 206 & 207  were:

A 10 Year Old Adelphi Highland. Adelphi is a highly respected bottler of single malt scotch. It has a long history dating back to 1826 and has now built a new distillery in 2014 named Ardnamurchin.  Adelphi purchased the whisky from the Teaninich distillery, which is a highland distillery located ½ hr north of Inverness. The distillery primarily produces whisky for blending, the largest user being Johnnie Walker. Rarely are single malts available from Teaninich.

Adelphi chooses liquor from various distilleries for maturing. This 10 YO from Teaninich was finished in ex Bourbon and Sherry casks. The whisky was non-chill filtered, natural colour, bottled straight from the cask at 46% ABV. Only 1250 bottles were made.

Colour –   Maple Wood
Nose – Dried apricot, cranberry, red currant jelly and pipe tobacco.
Palate – Rich and layered with dark chocolate, coconut, ginger nut and black currant flavours.
Finish – Medium length, soft and buoyant with a refreshing lingering finish.

This whisky was enjoyed by all and thought to be good value. Purchased at the Strath Liquor Merchants in Victoria for $95

The second offering was a Glen Garioch (Glen Geery) 18 YO The Renaissance 4th Chapter.

The Glen Garioch distillery is the most easterly distillery operating in Scotland near Aberdeen in a small town called Old Meldrum. It is presently owned by Beam Suntory. This is the fourth and final release in their 4-chapter series. It has been matured in ex bourbon and sherry casks. It is non-chill filtered bottled at 50.2 % ABV.

Nose – patisserie sweet to start developing crushed hazelnuts and vanilla with hints of cereal.
Palate – had a sensational range of flavours, Banoffee Pie, and sweet cookie dough leading to scented wood, coconut and chilli culminating in Maple syrup pancake and lingering honey.
Finish – complex with spiciness and honey on the tongue with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Appreciated by all, available at The Strath in Victoria $145.

The evening was also accompanied with a table of appies. Turkey sausage, a cheese plate surrounded by grapes, an onion cheese dip, as well as a mango chutney spread topped with coconut and crushed pecans. Chocolate wafers were also available to finish.
