Book Club 2nd Edition

Nine members of the Book Club met on Wednesday August 27th at Pacific Moon Rising for nachos and beverages. We discussed the book “real ones” by Katherena Vermette, a Canadian author who hails from Winnipeg. The story involves a family of Métis women whose non-indigenous mother claimed to be a Metis artist. We explored the notions of being a “pretendian”, sibling relations, and overcoming trauma. Opinions about the book varied, with a lively discussion taking place about what makes a story impactful.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday September 24, with Leslie hosting, when we will enjoy a pot luck lunch and share books that strongly influenced us when we were younger.
