Welcome:
Anne Larson in the Chair welcomed the large group of members present. Meeting was opened at 9:18 am.
Members with Guests:
No new guests were introduced.
Announcements:
Anne thanked Bob & Melba Nelson for setup and door duties. A Big Thanks to the Catering Crew of John and Sharon Vincent together with Leslie and Doug Horsman. The hall was set up when the Nelson’s arrived. Happy Birthday to all the November celebrants!
Minutes:
Anne Larson moved the Minutes of the General Meeting held on Oct. 16, 2016 be approved as circulated on our website. Tony Ransom seconded. Carried.
Treasurer:
Carolyn Dodd reported that as of November 17, 2016, the funds available at CCCU are as follows:
- High Interest Savings Account: $3,676.57
- Chequing Account: $1,237.27
Social Convenor:
Ann Lawson reported about the upcoming events:
- Nov. 23 – Quiz Night, jointly with Northwest Bay Probus Club, to be held at the Nanoose Library beginning at 5 pm. Appys and BYOB.
- Dec. 8 – Christmas Party at Fairwinds with a new D.J. A return visit from a Tidesmen quartet. Allana Patterson will be accepting cheques ($45pp for members and $60pp for guests) until Tuesday, after which registration is closed.
Plans for 2017 include:
- Jan. 26 – Viewing of E.C.H.O. Players new historical mural currently stored at Coombs, time TBD. Artist David Goatley will discuss the complex work and background required complete the 16 panels awaiting their official unveiling July 2017.
- Feb. 12 – Oliver 2pm performance presented by the Cowichan Musical Society.
- Apr. – May – Overnight trip to either Bamfield or Northern Sunshine coast via Powell River is in the planning stage.

Sunshine:
Jacqui Townsend reported that only one card had been sent out this month.
Jacqui wished a Happy 49th to Finola and Wallace Rayner who are celebrating their anniversary today. Please let Jacqui know if you are aware of anyone needing a card in a difficult time.

Communications: Ron reported the website is being well-used. Thank you to group members who have provided photos and commentaries on their events.
Membership:
Alida Sali reminded the club that membership is full at 180, with 27 people on the waiting list. 80 renewals have already been received. Renewal memberships must be received by December 31st. Send your completed Membership Renewal Form along with a cheque as soon as possible. Address the envelope to Alida Sali, Membership Secretary.
Guest Speaker Zini Maartman was introduced by Bill Evans. Bill provided information about Zini’s professional background with BCAA. The Travel Insurance 101 presentation highlighted the need to obtain the right information to make the right choices. Zini reviewed our primary health insurance (MSP) and insightful information about extended medical insurance, optional medical coverage, the factors of pre-existing conditional and drew attention to exclusions and limitations. Her biggest message was: “Know and Understand” your claims procedures. Bill Evans sincerely thanked Zini and returned home to review his policy.
Club Lunch:
Club Lunch today is at The Black Goose in Parksville, organized by Helen Stuart and Jane Juba. Helen and Jane are looking for other organizers to fill this position next year.

Final Announcements:
- Bob Bevis highlighted the Tidesmen Chorus Christmas Shows scheduled at the Nanaimo Ecumenical Centre December 9th and in Parksville at Knox United Church Dec. 10th. Tickets available from Bob Bevis or Ron Dodd.
- Jacqui Townsend announced an Elder College speaker presentation at Nanoose Place on November 19th at 10am with the topic “ Reinvention of Radio Since the Golden Era”.
- Anne Larson announced the Nominations Committee is looking for members who would be interested in becoming involved in next year’s Management Committee. The changeover takes place in March at the AGM, so please contact Anne, Ron or Bob B. if you are interested in filling a position on the Management Committee.
- Jean Russell encouraged members to participate in the Nanoose Elf Project. The project provides a happier Christmas for those less fortunate. Christmas Trees are located at various community outlets. Pick up a tag, purchase a gift and return the item by December 8th.
- Jan Evans won the Surprise Draw for the twenty-five dollar BC Liquor Store Gift Certificate.
