Guest Speaker: Our Guest Speaker, Dr. Susan Wilson, was introduced by Jean Russell.
Dr. Wilson is the founder and CEO of the Tumaini Fund as of 2003 in Guernsey. After taking a 4-month sabbatical leave in Tanzania with her husband and four sons in 2001, she quickly realized how much help was needed in Kagera region to provide food, clothing, clean water and access to schools and education. The Tumaini Fund was introduced in Canada in 2010, and in 2013, Tumaini Fund Canada became a registered Canadian Charity, with its head office located in Nanoose Bay.
Dr. Wilson’s impassioned presentation showed us the obvious physical changes, and the pride shown by all those living and learning to build a better life. Over 25,000 AIDS orphans are being supported, and approximately 6,000 Tumaini children are now in secondary school. Vocational Schools provide training for carpentry and tailoring. Adult education in operating home businesses gives hope for better family income. For more information, you can visit the website www.tumainicanada.org
