Ron Smith spoke about his book The Defiant Mind – living inside a stroke
Ron suffered a serious stroke in November 2012 and memorialized that moment with an emotional reading of a passage from his book which illustrates what a stroke is from a patient’s point of view. He acknowledged initially being in denial of suffering a stroke and what that costs in the staggering number of brain cells that die in a matter of minutes. He commentated on the fact that every stroke is different but the therapy is much the same and that it should be called “brain attack” not stroke. The idea of “brain therapy” as well as physical therapy was explored and the fact that recovery never ends!. This heartfelt, interesting and honest presentation full of important information was well received.
