Ann L hosted discussion of Miriam Toews’ “Fight Night”, a book that members either loved or didn’t engage with. Narrated by a delightful, unbelievably precocious 9 year old, the tale of 3 generations of women in one dysfunctional/bohemian family alternates between the sublime, the hilarious and the terrifying. The author infused the plot with much of her personal experience with mental health issues and religious patriarchy oppression, reinforcing the need for women to fight for their rights in order to survive (and enjoy) the important things in life.
