We met at Ann W’s to discuss “The German Wife” by Kelly Rimmer. The novel centres on two women, Sofie(German) and Lizzie (American), wives of rocket scientists working on “Operation Paperclip”, brought together in the small town of Huntsville, Alabama in the 1950s. Their stories are told in split timelines, going back and forth between the 1930s and 1950s, revealing events in their lives which have forced both of them to make moral decisions in order to save their family members in unimaginable circumstances. We had a great discussion about the choices people make and why they’re rarely ”cut and dried” decisions.
