New Member Introduction

May 2022

Now that live meetings & social activities have resumed, we have many new members to “meet and greet.”  As a pilot this year, new members now have the opportunity to share a brief bio to enhance networking and participating in our club activities. After membership has been confirmed the bios will be posted on the Probus website in the order received and accompanying photos will be included in the emailed Probus Monthly Newsletter.  The Probus Communications Editor really enjoys posting these introductions for such professionally diverse and interesting new members!  Please contact Judy George for details at sunshine@nbprobus.org

Ellen and Brian Freestone
We are relatively new residents of Schooner Ridge, arriving just prior to the total shut-down of Covid, so have had very little connection within the community.  Now we are gradually meeting a few neighbours as they come out of hibernation .

In reviewing the Probus website, several points of interest jumped out at us.  Ellen is particularly interested in joining a book club.  A friend who’s a Probus member had also recommended the wine tasting group.

Ellen is a recently retired Superintendent of a joint Elementary/High School in Vancouver.   Born and raised in AB, educated in the US, she loves the quiet and beauty of Nanoose Bay.  For the past 35 + years, prior to selling his company in 2016,  Brian was the Principal owner/operator of a Special Event Production/Management company in the Greater Vancouver area, with many big projects including chairing two Grey Cup Parades, producing several Vancouver Sea Festivals and Antique Car Shows, plus Kidsworld entertainment for kids and families.   Since the late fall our attempt to reach out and give-back to the community now involves serving as volunteers for the SOS Christmas program as well as weekly delivery for Meals On Wheels.

Cathy & Ken  Carey
The Carey’s have moved here from South Surrey, and previously White Rock; Ken left  Winnipeg 25 years ago for the west coast and has never looked back.  Cathy was a physiotherapist and Ken was an air traffic controller.  The Carey’s share many outdoorsy interests (walking, hiking, sailing) and also enjoy travel (local and abroad).  Cathy also has artistic hobbies (sewing for decor, watercolour painting, visiting art galleries, art studio tours & antiquing.)

Patti & Randy Koskinen
Patti and Randy moved here from Saskatchewan.  Patti worked in healthcare and Randy in education (high school).   Patti’s interests include (afternoon?) bridge, swimming/walking, day excursions on VI, socials/lunches.  Randy’s interests include bridge, reading/learning, tennis/pickleball…and all sports!
