Friday January 17, 2025 – First Monthly Meeting for 2025
Speaker: Debra Hagen, “Gold Bug Mosaics Art Work”
As a mosaic artist, Debra will introduce the history of mosaics, explain terms, show examples of contemporary mosaic styles as well as materials and tools of the art.
For most of her adult life, Debra has been experimenting with a variety of art forms and she has had the good fortune to study with many accomplished artists. Her focus has been on mosaics for almost two decades and during that time she has completed a week long Masters in Mosaic class at Orsoni’s Glass Factory in Venice, Italy, as well as many other classes with internationally respected mosaic artists. She creates her mosaic art and teaches classes out of her home based studio in Nanoose Bay.
As a mosaic artist, Debra is very interested in increasing both the audience for and the knowledge of contemporary mosaic art. Mosaics have found their place on the stage of contemporary art in many parts of the world. However, despite the growing popularity of mosaic fine art in France, England, the United States and many parts of Europe, it is still relatively unknown in Canada. She’d like to see that change.
During her talk, Debra will speak briefly about the history of mosaics, explain some of the terms common to the art form, show some examples of contemporary mosaic styles as well as some of the materials and tools used by mosaic artists today.
