Book Club Second Edition

We met by zoom to discuss 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act  by Bob Joseph.  The “Indian Act, 1876” laid out policy to be followed to “prepare aborigines for a higher civilization by encouraging them to assume the privileges and responsibilities of full citizenship.”  Joseph presents 21 different aspects in factual, easy to read language, showing how marginalizing and racist the policies have been.  All of us were shocked by the revelations in the book and found it very informative.  We would highly recommend that this book be read by all Canadians.
