Special Interest Groups Updates

Special Interest Groups

Updated Nov. 9, 2024

To view/print a copy of the Probus Club of Nanoose Bay Guest Waiver for Club activities click here.

A request to the leaders: Please volunteer to write up a short report for your group – a couple of lines and one or two pictures is all that is required. We will then put this report on the website so that other members can see what your activity is all about, potentially encouraging additional participation.

If the group you are interested in is ‘full’ – please try to solicit other members who may be interested in joining and then contact the leader of the current group and suggest that he/she consider splitting the Group and starting a new one, with new plus current members in each. This will provide an ideal opportunity for the new members to meet long-time members as well as allow for ‘coaching’ for beginners.

For contact information on Special Interest Group Leaders and locations, please refer to your membership list.

Anything But Bridge Association (ABBA) Games Night

ORGANIZER  Don and Sharon Jackson
DAY/TIME We meet the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7 pm.

Our next ABBA evening is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19th at 7 pm.  Wendy and Darrell have kindly offered to host, so please let Sharon know by this Friday, November 8th, if you are able to attend.  We will need a secondary host if the group is larger than 14, so if hosting is possible for you, let me know this as well.

Please also note there will be no ABBA evening in December.  It is a busy month for all, so we will let Santa take centre stage and resume our playing on January 21st.

We now have a large group that will be split into two.  The Anything But Bridge Association is all about Fun and Games – learning new games as well as playing those that are tried and true. We are looking forward to an evening of friendly competition in a very congenial atmosphere. New members are welcome.

January 8 – hosted by Ryan and Mary Les Petits Wineaux is a wine tasting group for beginners.  We explore basic wine tasting techniques using sight, smell and taste to learn how to evaluate and to appreciate wines.  Regular monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month starting at 5:00.  Members take turns hosting the meetings. At each meeting, we will compare two or three different wines, identifying typical characteristics.  We discuss their clarity, aroma, and flavours with references on-hand to help develop  vocabulary and tasting notes to record our opinions and what we have learned.  The cost of the wines tasted are divided between the attendees.  After the educational part of the meeting, we take time to savour the wines and to enjoy the appetizers brought by attendees to pair with the wines. We have limited the size of the group to 16.  If strong interest is shown by members, we encourage another group to be formed.   If you are interested in starting another wine appreciation group,  please contact Brian at specialinterestgroups@nbprobus.org.
